Photograph and measure clothes for an honest listing
By Turbo List · Published 5 November 2026 · Illustrative examples
A useful clothing listing begins before you write a title. Clear photographs and actual measurements give buyers information that a polished description cannot replace. This checklist works whether you write your listing yourself or review an AI draft.
Plan five photos around buyer questions
Start with the whole garment from the front, then the back. Lay it flat or use a hanger against an uncluttered background. Use indirect daylight and turn off filters: changing the color can make the delivered item look different from the listing.
Use the third image for the brand and size label. Use the fourth for the composition or care label when present. Reserve the fifth for the most important detail or defect. If there are several defects, take more photographs for the marketplace itself: Turbo List accepts up to five images, not a complete condition inspection.
- Front: show the entire item, including cuffs and hem.
- Back: show shape, seams and any fading.
- Brand and size label: keep small print sharp and readable.
- Composition label: capture percentages rather than guessing fabric.
- Detail: show wear, fastenings or a flaw with its location clear.
Measure the item, not the photograph
Place the garment flat, fasten it as it would normally be worn, and smooth it without stretching. For a top, measure across the chest from underarm to underarm and the length from the shoulder near the neck to the hem. For trousers, measure the waistband flat, inside leg and rise. State whether each number is a flat width or a circumference.
Use centimetres or inches consistently, and tell buyers which you used. Do not double a flat measurement without explaining it. Stretch fabric, a curved waistband and different measuring points can change the result; use approximate wording rather than claiming millimetre precision.
Illustrative example — not a measurement of the guide image: Flat chest width: approximately 54 cm, underarm to underarm. Length: approximately 66 cm, shoulder to hem. Label size: M. Please compare these measurements with a top you own.
Show flaws in context and close up
A close-up alone can make a tiny mark look large or conceal where it sits. Pair it with a wider photograph on the marketplace. Name the location, approximate size and effect: a loose seam near the cuff, a 1 cm mark on the front, or light pilling under the arms.
Check the collar, underarms, crotch, pockets, hems, zips and buttons in person. A photo cannot reveal a smell, an intermittent zip fault or a repair hidden inside. Add these details manually even if the AI description says the garment is in good condition.
Before uploading
Remove address labels, receipts, faces and unrelated personal information from the frame. Avoid including a person's photo without permission. Keep original files available in case a buyer asks for another angle. A crisp, unfiltered photograph of the actual item is more useful than a stylised stock image.
After generation, compare brand, label size and material against your photographs. If a label is missing or unreadable, write that it is missing or unreadable instead of turning a visual guess into a fact.
